O GALERIJI
Galerija starih majstora i palača u kojoj se nalazi otvorene su 9. studenoga 1884. godine s fundusom od 256 umjetničkih djela. Galerija nosi ime njezina osnivača, biskupa Josipa Jurja Strossmayera. Otvorena je u sastavu Akademije znanosti i umjetnosti (HAZU). U Strossmayerovoj galeriji izloženi su radovi europskih slikara od 14. do 19. stoljeća. Fondovi su svrstani u tri glavne skupine: talijanska, francuska i sjevernoeuropska (njemačka, flamanska i nizozemska) djela, a također i neka djela hrvatskih umjetnika.
ABOUT THE GALLERY
The Gallery of Old Masters and the palace in which the gallery is located were opened on November 9, 1884 with a holdings of 256 works of art. Gallery is named after its founder, Bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer. It was opened as part of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (CASA). The Gallery exhibits the works of European painters from 14th to 19th century. The holdings have been classified into three major groups: Italian, French and Northern European (German, Flemish and Dutch) works, and also some works by Croatian artists.
PRISTUPAČNOST
Glavnom ulazu na sjevernoj strani palače u kojoj se Galerija nalazi osobe u kolicima ne mogu pristupiti zbog niza stepenica, no zato je za nas osiguran ulaz sa južne strane. Nisam uspjela naći podatak o tome kada je Storssmayerova galerija napravila tu zaista potrebnu prilagodbu i otvorila se osobama u kolicima, no ulaz sa južne strane izvrstan je primjer prilagodbe starih spomenika baštine pridržavajući se izgleda i materijala vremena u kojoj je zgrada nastala!
Na sredini palače sa južne strane naći ćete vrata koja nisu za posjetitelje, no ista takva replika vrata napravljena je i na desnoj strani zgrade, a pored tih vrata stoji portafon kojim možete dobiti portira te ga zamoliti da siđe, otvori vam vrata i otprati vas dizalom do izložbenog prostora!
Prostorom Galerije možete se slobodno kretati, nema nikakvih zapreka, a diljem prostora postavljene su i stolice tako da se možete i odmoriti ako vam je teško stajati. Plakati s tekstom i legende postavljeni su dovoljno nisko da ih bez problema možete čitati iz sjedećeg položaja. Drugih prilagodbi nažalost nema. Moram samo napomenuti (a ovo me baš jako iznenadilo, pogotovo kada se radi o zgradi koja je naknadno prilagođavana), vrata Galerija su iznimno teška za otvoriti. Ne znam zašto, je li do mehanizma ili težine stakla, no i na ulazu i na izlazu morala sam pričekati osobu koja čuva prostor da me pusti van, što nije bilo najugodnije iskustvo…
Uglavnom, čestitam svima u Strossmayerovoj galeriji koji su mislili i na nas! Izrazito mi je drago da sam na ovom svom ludom putovanju vidjela i ovakav pristup prilagodbi starih spomenika baštine. Doduše, voljela bih da su u prostor uvedene prilagodbe i za osobe sa drugih spektara invaliditeta (opisi na brajici, audio vodiči, rukohvati…) no usudit ću se nadati da netko tamo misli i na to!
ACCESSIBILITY
The main entrance on the north side of the palace where the Gallery is located isn’t accessible to wheelchair users due to a flight of stairs, but we can access from the south side. I couldn’t find any information on when the Storssmayer Gallery underwent the necessary adjustments to wheelchair users, but the entrance on the south side is a great example of adapting old heritage monuments by adhering to the look and materials of the time in which the building was built!
In the middle of the palace on the south side you will find a door that is not ment for visitors, but the same replica of the door was made on the right side of the building, and next to that door you’ll find an intercom with which you can talk to the doorman and ask him to come down, open the door and accompany you to exhibition space by an elevator!
You can move freely through the entire Gallery, there are no obstacles, and chairs have been set up all over the space so that you can rest if it is difficult for you to stand. Posters with text and legends are set low enough so that you can easily read the text, even from a sitting position. Unfortunately, there are no other adjustments. I have to mention one thing (and this really surprised me, especially when it comes to the building that was adapted to wheelchair users), the Gallery doors are extremely difficult to open. I don’t know why, whether it’s the mechanism or the weight of the glass, but when entering and exiting I had to wait for the person guarding the space to let me out, which wasn’t the most pleasant experience…
Anyway, congratulations to everyone at the Strossmayer Gallery who thought of us too! I’m extremely glad to have seen this approach to adapting old heritage monuments on this wild journey of mine. However, I would like other adaptations to be introduced into the space for people from other spectrums of disabilities (descriptions in Braille, audio guides, handrails …) but I will dare to hope that someone over there thinks about that too!
